Raedeke Associates, Inc. is soliciting an on-call roster of Environmental Professionals with expertise and experience in stormwater management, water quality monitoring and sampling, a basic understanding of spill prevention control and countermeasure (SPCC), and critical areas for heavy civil construction and engineering projects.  We are a small, employee-owned Environmental Consulting firm located in North Seattle.  The position is an on-call, non-exempt hourly position with the potential to transition into a permanent full-time position.

Summary of Duties:

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to oversee and monitor construction activities as it relates to environmental compliance on large infrastructure projects.  Effectively communicate using your understanding of stormwater handling, water quality treatment systems, appropriate erosion and sediment controls, best management practices, spill prevention control countermeasures, permit requirements, and project specifications.  The position involves conducting certified erosion and sediment control lead (CESCL) inspections, contractor coordination regarding environmental permit compliance, review of contractor plans regarding implementation of stormwater pollution prevention and temporary erosion and sediment control plans, understanding of project specifications and contract requirements, understanding local and state environmental regulations associated with projects, assessing work activities in and around critical areas, communication with senior staff identifying field conditions, and completing accurate and fact based daily environmental inspection reports.  Applicants must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, be knowledgeable in job hazard analysis and safety, and be able to walk on uneven surfaces.


Desired Qualifications

  • Associates degree or higher in civil/stormwater engineering, aquatic ecology, water quality, water resources, chemistry, biology, geology, natural resources, or related fields preferred.  
  • A minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in environmental compliance monitoring, water quality sampling, inspections, and permitting (ex. NPDES, MS4, CSWGP, 404/401, HPA, etc.)
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in or around Heavy Civil and Engineering Construction.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL), Certified Erosion Sediment Stormwater Inspector (CESSWI), and/or Certified Inspector Sediment Erosion Control (CISEC).  Project experience in Western Washington preferred.
  • Current or ability to obtain and maintain valid CESCL certification at time of hire.
  • Ability to collaborate with local jurisdictions, the client, troubleshoot with contractors, and other project team members and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national environmental, water quality, and stormwater regulations
  • Familiarity with the WDOE Stormwater Management Manual for Western Washington
  • Knowledge of current Best Management Practices, including operational and source controls
  • Knowledge of temporary onsite water treatment systems  
  • Familiarity with western Washington Construction Stormwater General Permit requirements
  • Knowledge of SPCC (Spill Prevention Controls and Countermeasures)
  • The knowledge and ability to use scientific measuring instruments
  • Experience with Sound Transit, WSDOT, or large linear projects is preferred
  • Experience with wetlands and wildlife (i.e. critical areas) and mitigation sites a plus
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Construction worksite and associated health and safety experience required
